Laavinia Jaiganth:

Working on Consistency

In a remarkable feat at the All-Comers 3 competition held in March in Singapore, Laavinia passed her personal milestone by running her first-ever 400 meters under 60 seconds on home soil. This event marked a significant achievement for the athlete, who clocked an impressive 57.78 seconds, a time she had previously recorded but never within Singapore.

Laavinia's journey to this milestone is particularly noteworthy considering her recent transition. She joined FWCC only at the beginning of this year. Adapting to a new coach and training regimen posed its challenges. The overwhelming support from the coaches and guidance of Coach Fabian really aided the transition.

Her preparation for the All-Comers 3 was not without hurdles. Laavinia was forced to sit out the previous All-Comers race due to illness. However, she resumed training with renewed vigour and focus, which culminated in her outstanding performance at the March competition.

During her warm-up before her race, Laavinia made sure to stay calm and keep her anxiety at bay. Based on previous races she learnt that if she was too anxious, she usually did not perform well. Hence, before her race she made sure to stay calm and kept herself busy by listening to music and talking with her coaches and teammates.

A crucial element of her success was the presence of an athlete from Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan. The Japanese athlete was in Singapore for a training camp and participated in the race alongside Laavinia. This pairing proved beneficial for Laavinia, as she utilized the opportunity to pace herself against the visiting competitor. The competitiveness between the two athletes allowed Laavinia to push her limits and ultimately break the 60-second barrier.

After the race, Laavinia felt a sense of accomplishment. She had run an under 60 seconds run in Singapore for the first time. This was a goal for her for over 2 years. She felt a sense of fulfilment looking at the timing. This result showed her that she could reach greater limits, she just had to put in the work. She also felt grateful towards Coach Fabian and all the coaches at FWCC. They had all aided in this journey.

This was her first time representing TeamFabian. This gave her sense of pride and extra motivation to do better. She wanted to represent her new club and showcase how far she had come with their training. Having her teammates and coaches from FWCC supporting her added fuel to her fire.

This milestone is not just a personal triumph for Laavinia but also a promising indicator of her potential in future competitions. With her breakthrough performance, she has set a new benchmark for herself and continues to work towards it with the help of FWCC.
