Teh Ying Shan:

Let the legs do the talking

eh Ying Shan's journey in 2024 has been nothing short of remarkable. Her path, however, has not been without its challenges. The pressure of balancing academics with a demanding training schedule took a toll on her, leading to a critical decision to take a break from her studies. This choice allowed her to focus on her training and recovery, ultimately making her a stronger and more resilient athlete.

Overcoming Challenges and Achieving Success

In April 2024, Ying Shan competed in the highly anticipated National School Games (NSG), where she demonstrated her prowess by securing second place in both the 100 meters and 200 meters races. Finishing just behind her talented teammate, her performance solidified her reputation as one of the most promising young athletes in Singapore.

Joining FWCC

After her season ended last year, Ying Shan joined FWCC, beginning her training under Coach Fabian in early 2024. The transition to FWCC provided her with more targeted training sessions and a supportive environment, allowing her to push harder and improve significantly. Ying Shan felt more prepared and ready for competitions, with the increased camaraderie and the light-hearted atmosphere among her clubmates and coaches making training enjoyable.

Her gym sessions were particularly transformative. Coach Fabian and the other coaches took the time to correct her form, ensuring she mastered the basics before advancing to more complex exercises. Immediate feedback during sessions helped her prevent injuries and continuously refine her technique. Track sessions were equally meticulous, with coaches reviewing videos of each run to provide detailed feedback and corrections.

Ying Shan went for her first International meet of the year - ASEAN School Games (ASG) in Vietnam in May 2024. Although not officially recognized due to various factors, her performance in Vietnam saw her breaking her personal best for the 100m. Despite not being physically present in Vietnam, Coach Fabian's advice through texts and video analysis helped her stay focused and improve.

Looking Ahead

As she looks ahead, Teh Ying Shan has her sights set on breaking her personal bests in the coming races as well as qualifying for the SEA Games 2025. Her dream is to stand on the world stage and compete against the best, a goal she is well on her way to achieving. With her talent, dedication, and the support of her family and coaches, there is little doubt that Ying Shan will continue to make waves in the world of athletics.
