Long Distance
“ I officially joined FWCC in June 2023 to better my timings and improve my standings in the school games which is currently one of the key nation wide competitions for students that take place every year. After a year of being with FWCC, I have found that I have not only embarked on a journey of timings and results. But mentally, I have grown stronger from when I first joined FWCC and made several friendships that I will cherish forever.
Going all the way back to when I first joined FWCC, I initially did feel a little fearful as the only familiar faces were my seniors from my school (Crescent Girl’s -which is coached under FWCC) who already seemed to have their clique of close friends. Many of the students in FWCC that were in secondary school were already well-bonded with their current friends or were already in Junior College by then. Apart from being fearful of not being able to keep up with the rest and lagging behind during sessions, I was also shrouded in a constant fear of not being able to find a group of friends to train with and enjoy training with. But my fears were soon extinguished, the whole FWCC family was extremely friendly and took me in immediately.
A part of training in FWCC comprises of drills to improve our motor skills and running form. When I first started learning these drills I made countless mistakes and for a period of time I just decided to skip through all the drills because at that time they all seemed the same -Complicated and extra. Because of this I always struggled with the 20-30minutes of drills and I never understood what drills were for.
The coaches in FWCC, Coach Fabian, Coach Dillion, Coach Ain and Coach Brien were extremely patient with me and eventually, I was able to pick up the drills one by one after the coaches meticulous picking at my mistakes. The coaches also explained to us how the drills would help make our running more efficient and “smoother” Indeed after a few months I could see a vast improvement in my form from when I first started.
Fast forward to present day training, I have found my group of friends in training and my training partners. Without the friendly culture of FWCC I wouldn’t have been able to find this group of people that are able to both push me to my limits during sessions mentally and physically and to have fun while doing so.
The coaches in FWCC also play a key role in my improvements, their constant working behind the scenes to plan and craft each and every workout to cater to my goals and current fitness has no doubt contributed to (no matter how cliche it sounds) me today. Even despite being so busy they still show up for every single session to coach, guide and push you.
Competition days. No matter how early or late the race might be, the coaches will never fail to be there on time to bring you through your pre competition trembles with pep talks. After the competition, no matter the outcome, they will always review the ups and the downs of your race to perfect your next one!
I am immensely grateful to the FWCC team for their unwavering support, encouragement, and dedication. The coaches and team members have been instrumental in pushing me beyond my perceived limits and helping me achieve feats I once deemed impossible. Their guidance and camaraderie have transformed my running journey into an inspiring and fulfilling experience, and for that, I am forever thankful. Here's to many more miles and milestones together. “
